We just spent 7 days on one of the newest additions to the Norwegian Cruise Line lineup, and we have some thoughts. As NCL regulars who have traveled on many of their ships, we can tell you right now: the NCL Prima is a different breed.
It is a true testament to the line’s commitment to innovation and luxury. This ship seamlessly blends contemporary design with classic elegance, offering a vacation that feels both unique and unforgettable.

To put it simply—this ship is plush. It isn’t like the other ships in the fleet. Where others might feel high-energy and sprawling, the Prima feels elevated and high-end.
The Layout
The biggest takeaway from our week onboard is the layout. It is definitely more compartmentalized than what we’ve seen before, but it feels well suited for the ship. Instead of the wide-open spaces of the older classes, you get these intimate, well-designed areas that make the ship feel more exclusive and private. It’s a departure from the traditional NCL blueprint, but the result is a spectacular, sophisticated experience at sea.

- The Local Bar & Grill: A vibrant pub-style eatery offering comfort food classics and a lively atmosphere. This is our go to place right after we board the ship on embarcation day. We recommend the wing and cob salad.
- Food Republic: A global marketplace with stations featuring cuisine from around the world, from Asian-inspired dishes to Mexican specialties. Great place to get a variety of things, but they do not always come out together, as they come from different places.
- Hudson’s is the showstopper of the main dining rooms, featuring breathtaking 270-degree floor-to-ceiling views from the back of the ship that make every breakfast or dinner feel special.
- The Commodore Room For a more intimate vibe, visit Deck 6. The Commodore Room offers a smaller, more refined setting that feels tucked away from the ship’s hustle and bustle. While both restaurants share the same excellent, globally-inspired menu, switching between the two gives you a completely different atmosphere—one grand and airy, the other cozy and classic.
- Coco’s: A delightful dessert shop serving decadent gelato, colorful macarons, and other sweet treats. Note-there is a separate charge for items from Coco’s.

- Palomar: An authentic Italian restaurant serving classic dishes with a modern twist. Indulge in fresh pasta, savory seafood, and delectable desserts.
- Le Bistro: A sophisticated French bistro serving classic French cuisine with an elegant and intimate ambiance. We would recommend the Guacamole and the Skirt Steak.
- Los Lobos on the Prima offers a sophisticated, upscale take on Mexican classics, featuring standout dishes like their famous tableside guacamole and succulent Cochinita Pibil. With its prime location on Deck 8, you can enjoy a handcrafted margarita in the vibrant dining room or head outside to Ocean Boulevard for a beautiful meal al fresco.
- Cagney’s Steakhouse: A classic American steakhouse offering premium cuts of meat, succulent seafood, and a refined dining experience. We make sure that Cagney’s is on our list with every cruise. The cuts of meat are perfectly cooked and the service (like the rest of the time) is out of this world.
- Onda by Scarpetta: An upscale Italian restaurant specializing in innovative coastal Italian dishes. We loved the Carpaccio and would have loved a larger portion. The veal was some of the best I have had. If you are a connoisseur of fish, but are afraid to try the (head on fish) Branzino, do not worry, they serve it as filets only. So not having your dinner looking back at you.

One of the standout entertainment options on the NCL Prima is Syd Norman’s Pour House, a lively music venue inspired by the classic rock era. This energetic venue features a live band and emergency singers performing timeless rock anthems, making it the perfect place to let loose and dance the night away. We were fortunate enough to see one of the performers we saw on the Breakaway in Europe. Word to the wise. You will need to be in line an hour before opening to get a seat. This is a first come first serve venue that is normally full 30 minute before show time.
A highlight of Syd Norman’s is the spectacular Fleetwood Mac Rumor concert, a high-energy tribute to the legendary band. This immersive experience features incredibly talented musicians performing Fleetwood Macs entire album “Rumors” from cover to cover. Along they way ther narrate the event that took place during the making of the album. this creates an unforgettable night of music and nostalgia. Some of the items they discuss.

The Vibe Beach Club is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the ship and enjoy a day of pure relaxation and indulgence. It give you opportunity to avoid the loud noise of the main pool. No loud music and no kids. Just sun bathing and relaxation.
